Trane Choice 16 Gas System
Formerly XR16
The Trane Choice 16 gas system pairs a higher-efficiency single-stage air conditioner (formerly the XR16) with a compatible Trane gas furnace. Like the heat pump version, the Choice 16 AC offers a modest efficiency improvement over the Choice 14 but remains single-stage.
As with the heat pump lineup, we recommend most homeowners either stay with the Choice 14 for budget or step up to the Priority 17 for the multi-speed inverter upgrade. The Choice 16 sits in a challenging price position between the two.

Is This the Right System for You?
Ideal For
The Choice 16 AC makes sense when you want the highest single-stage efficiency available in a gas system, or when the Priority 17 doesn't come in the tonnage you need.
Consider an Alternative If
Same value positioning challenge as the heat pump version. The installed cost is close to the Priority 17, which offers a much bigger comfort and efficiency upgrade with its multi-speed inverter compressor. For most budgets, the Choice 14 or Priority 17 is the clearer value.

Previously sold as the XR16 AC with model numbers starting with 4TTR5. Current models use the 5TTR5 prefix with R-454B refrigerant.
